Foreign investors will soon be paying more for housing under a government plan to boost housing stock for Australians. According to the announcement, the government will soon introduce legislation to triple the foreign investment fees for the purchase of established homes and double the vacancy fees for all foreign-owned dwellings purchased since 9 May 2017. These changes will not apply to foreign investors purchasing new property, and application fees for foreign investment in Build to Rent projects will be cut to encourage more projects.
