Movement may be afoot on the complex issue of individual tax residency. In 2019, the Board of Taxation released a report which contained a proposed model for modernising individual residency to simplify the tax system and reduce compliance costs for individuals and employers. The government has now commenced the first step in the process of modernising individual tax residency laws by soliciting public feedback on the proposed model. The outcomes of the consultation will inform the government’s decision on whether to proceed with the changes.
