The ATO has updated its ruling on the deductibility of self-education expenses. There are no changes to the ATO’s approach to self-education expenses in the consolidated ruling. It also does not address the repeal of s 82A of the ITAA 1997 which limited the amount of expenses otherwise deductible. Generally, self-education expenses are deductible if they enhance existing skills or lead to income increase for an individual.
